Airlines Reporting Corporation Chooses Vormetric for Data Security
Transaction Processor for Travel Industry Relies on Vormetric Encryption for Compliance with PCI DSS and State Data Breach Laws
SAN JOSE, Calif. – June 19, 2012 – Vormetric, Inc., the leader in enterprise encryption and key management, today announced that Airlines Reporting Corporation® (ARC), the worldwide leader in transaction settlement for the travel industry, has selected Vormetric Data Security to protect its unstructured data stores and to meet regulatory compliance requirements. ARC is using Vormetric Encryption to protect files that contain payment card data and other personally identifiable information (PII) from unauthorized access. Vormetric enables ARC to enforce granular role-based access security policies on selected data sets.

ARC is an airline-owned company serving the travel industry with financial services, data products and services, ticket distribution, original travel solutions, and settlement in the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa. Its customers process more than $80 billion annually through ARC's world-class settlement system - making it the financial backbone of travel distribution.
“We needed an encryption and access control solution that could protect a large data store of files that contain sensitive information,” said Jim Fallon, security operations manager for ARC.
“One of the tipping points for us was Vormetric’s management console. It makes creating encryption profiles -- which contain unique guard points, security policies, and keys -- a snap. Meanwhile, all that’s required to apply these profiles to individual users is a simple connection to Active Directory. It’s one of the easiest products to implement I’ve ever used,” he added.
To meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) and State Data Breach Law requirements, Vormetric Data Security enables ARC to encrypt sensitive unstructured data stored in files, control access to that information, and report on who is accessing the data. These reporting capabilities make it easy for ARC to satisfy auditors’ needs and identify data access attempts by unauthorized users. Vormetric Data Security is so transparent that ARC employees are unaware that files are encrypted unless they request access to data for which they lack authorization permissions.
“ARC is a very discerning buyer of IT products,” said Bruce Johnson, vice president of worldwide sales and service operations for Vormetric. “Their decision to deploy Vormetric Data Security is high praise for its ease of use and ease of implementation, and helps explain why 15 of the Fortune 25 companies have standardized on Vormetric for their encryption needs.”
“The Vormetric deployment took just a few weeks and was squeaky clean. That’s unusual for an enterprise security product,” concluded ARC’s Fallon.
